We’re incredibly proud to share some exciting news…
The Bearded Bleepers have been featured in the May 2026 issue of Treasure Hunting Magazine, the UK’s most popular publication dedicated to metal detecting.
For us, this is a real milestone and a genuine highlight in our detecting journey so far.
A Big Moment for the Bleepers
When I first started the Bearded Bleepers, the goal was simple, to explore Surrey, uncover its hidden history, and share those discoveries with others. What began as a small group of like-minded detectorists has grown into something much more meaningful, and to now see our story featured in a national magazine is incredibly rewarding.
Our feature spans four pages and covers who we are as a group, where we detect, and some of the finds that have made our journey so memorable. It also highlights our approach to responsible metal detecting and the importance of sharing what we discover with the wider community.
Telling Surrey’s Story
One of the key themes of the article is our connection to Surrey.
Everything we do is focused on this county, from the fields and hills of the Surrey Hills to the stories hidden beneath them. The finds featured in the article aren’t just objects; they represent moments in time and the lives of the people who were here before us.
From Tudor coins and Roman artefacts to more recent discoveries like wartime items, each piece helps build a picture of Surrey’s rich and layered history.
From Field to Museum
A big part of the feature also focuses on something we’re particularly proud of, our metal detecting exhibit at Shere Museum.
Seeing our finds move from the soil into a museum setting has been a huge achievement for us. The exhibit allows visitors to view objects we’ve discovered across Surrey, watch footage of them being unearthed, and learn more about metal detecting and the stories behind the finds.
It’s important to us that what we uncover doesn’t just stay in a finds pouch, it becomes something that can be shared, appreciated, and preserved.
A Team Effort
While I’m often the one writing and sharing our story, none of this would be possible without the rest of the team.
The Bearded Bleepers are made up of a brilliant group of detectorists, Yanne, Ashley, Michael L and Michael H, all bringing their own enthusiasm, knowledge and dedication to the hobby. Whether we’re out in the field or working behind the scenes, it’s very much a team effort.
What This Means to Us
Being featured in Treasure Hunting Magazine is more than just a proud moment, it’s recognition of everything we’ve been working towards.
From long days in muddy fields to research, recording finds, building our website, creating videos and launching our museum exhibit, it all comes together in this feature.
It’s also a great opportunity to show the positive side of metal detecting and how, when done responsibly, it can play an important role in uncovering and sharing local history.
What’s Next?
This certainly isn’t the end of the journey, far from it.
We’ve got plenty more permissions to explore, more history to uncover, and more stories to share. With spring now underway, we’re looking forward to getting back out into the fields and seeing what 2026 has in store. Keep you eyes peeled, or I should say ears open for our upcoming epsiode on BBC Sounds, Secret Surrey where Murray will be talking about the Battle of Aclea and the possible location for this lost battle ground somewhere near Leith Hill in Surrey.
If you manage to get hold of a copy of the May 2026 issue of Treasure Hunting Magazine, we hope you enjoy reading about our adventures as much as we’ve enjoyed living them.
