Murray Appears on the Detecting History Podcast with Katie MacDoyle

We’re excited to share that Murray has just appeared on the Detecting History Podcast with Katie MacDoyle in a 45-minute episode all about the Bearded Bleepers and our upcoming exhibit at Shere Museum.

In the episode, Murray talks about his personal metal detecting journey, how he first got started, how his equipment has evolved over the years, and what he’s learned along the way detecting across the Surrey Hills. From his early days using the Garrett Ace 150, to upgrading to the Vanquish 540, and now swinging the Equinox 900, the conversation covers how technology, comfort, and weight all play a big role when you’re out detecting for hours at a time.

The discussion also dives into permissions, how we approach working with landowners, building trust, and ensuring finds are recorded responsibly. It’s a great insight into the values behind the Bearded Bleepers and how we operate.

Of course, one of the main highlights of the episode is our collaboration with Shere Museum. Murray explains how the Bearded Bleepers have created a display showcasing finds and stories from the local landscape, forming an evolving exhibition that opens when the museum reopens on 14 February 2026. The display will continue to grow as we make new discoveries, helping share Surrey’s buried history with the wider community.

It was a real pleasure for Murray to sit down with Katie and talk through the journey so far, and we’re incredibly proud to see the Bearded Bleepers featured on such a well-respected detecting podcast.

If you’d like to learn more about our story, our finds, and the Shere Museum exhibit, this episode is definitely worth a listen.
