Joining Detecting History as Series 4 Co-Host

by | Sep 15, 2026

About Smokeless Heat Logs

I’m really pleased to share some exciting news… I’ve joined forces with Katie MacDoyle over at Detecting History, and I’ll be joining her as co-host for Series 4.

As anyone who follows the Bearded Bleepers will know, I’m always happy talking about metal detecting, whether it’s on camera with our YouTube channel, writing magazine articles, or giving a talk at a museum. So when the opportunity came along to join Katie for the new series, it seemed like a great fit.

We’ve already recorded our first episode of Series 4, which is now out and available to listen to on all the usual podcast platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Acast. Episodes will also be available to watch on YouTube, so you can choose whether to listen or watch us chatting away!

What Can You Expect From Series 4?

We’ve got plenty planned for the new series and want to cover as many different aspects of metal detecting as possible.

Alongside general detecting chat, we’ll be looking at interesting finds and the stories behind them, detecting news, product reviews, TV programmes, books and exhibitions, as well as talking about upcoming rallies, events and other things happening within the detecting community. We also have an interesting person or object from history we discuss in each episode!

We have got some great guest interviews lined up for future episodes, giving us the chance to speak to some interesting people from across the hobby and beyond.

Most importantly, we want the podcast to be something detectorists can get involved with too.

Show Us Your Finds!

Found something interesting recently?

We’d love to see it.

Send us photographs of your finds and we may feature them on the show, where Katie and I can take a look, discuss what you’ve discovered and hopefully help share the story behind it with other detectorists.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be gold, silver or treasure either. As we all know, sometimes the most interesting finds are the objects that leave you wondering “What on earth is that?”, so feel free to send us a photo of a ‘mystery object’ to test our ID’ing skills.

Give Detecting History a Listen

If you love metal detecting and enjoy hearing about finds, history, equipment, events and everything else that comes with the hobby, drop by and give us a listen.

Series 4 is only just getting started, and we’ve got plenty more to come.

I’m really looking forward to working alongside Katie, meeting some of our upcoming guests and seeing where the new series takes us.

Happy detecting and don’t forget to send us your finds!
